Envisioning Group Two Leads the Way to a Railtrail!
The Envisioning Andover strategic plan led Action Group II to focus on developing a railtrail (a multi-use path developed in a disused railway easement) between Andover and Augusta. In the longterm, this trail will also connect to the Redbud Trail in Wichita for a total of more than 20 miles of trail once completed.

Background and Funding Information
Railtrails are typically used for walking, bicycling and sometimes horseback riding. The City of Andover and a grassroots group of citizens are working together to create a hike/bike trail out of the disused BNSF rail.

The City learned very exciting news on June 7, 2013: Andover's Transportation Enhancement grant application, which was for phase one of the trail (159th Street to the 13th Street Sports Park), has been awarded fully. The grant is based on a $1.7 million project cost and covers 80% via federal funds.

An open house was held on Thursday, January 4 to inform the public about this process and glean feedback from citizens. For more information about this project, watch this presentation which was given at the City's Rail Trail Open House.

Get Involved
If you would like to become part of the grassroots citizen group that helps create the Redbud trail through Andover, please contact David Levy the chairperson for this group.

Soon the group will also be seeking donations to help pay for amenities along the trail including benches, signage, trash cans and the like. The group welcomes any suggestions you may have!
