Captain Ben Graber started with the Andover Police Department in June 2008. Captain Graber began his Public Safety career in 1997 when he joined the volunteer fire department in his hometown of Pretty Prairie (KS) where he was promoted to the rank of Captain before leaving. In 2002 he began his law enforcement career with the Reno County Sheriff’s Department, starting out as a Jail Deputy before transferring to patrol. He attended the 177th Kansas Law Enforcement basic training class from July to October 2004. He continued his career with the South Hutchinson Police Department before being hired with the Andover Police Department.
While with the Andover Police Department, Captain Graber was promoted to Sergeant in May of 2011. This position was reclassified to Lieutenant in August of 2013. As a supervisor, he has been in charge of the department Community Outreach programs, Traffic Safety Coordinator and the departments Field training program, which he continues to supervise. Captain Graber was promoted to his current position on October 31, 2021. He supervises the Operations Division which includes the Patrol Section, Investigations Section as well as the K-9 program.
Captain Graber is a 2014 graduate of the Kansas University Public Management Center’s “Law Enforcement Leadership Academy” and a 2015 graduate of the Kansas Police Administrators Seminar (KPAS).
Captain Graber was the recipient of the 2009 “Officer of the Year” award.
