FAQ's About the National Fireworks Association Convention at Central Park,  September 10th- 14th

 Who is the NFA?

America’s National Fireworks Association (NFA) has since its inception in 1993 been
dedicated to the widespread availability and safe handling and usage of consumer and display fireworks in the United States. It now has more than 1,200 members from the US, China, Canada, Mexico, Taiwan, Australia, Sweden, Great Britain, and Puerto Rico

What are they doing?

The NFA Expos have for the past several years comprised a large trade show, with US and international exhibitors, educational seminars, workshops, fireworks demonstrations and competitions, social events, and even auctions of fireworks memorabilia. The very well attended educational seminars and workshops are frequently on topics such as fireworks technology, regulations and standards, insurance, safety, and business practices.
The trade show portion will be held at the Hyatt in Wichita. The fireworks demonstrations and competitions will be held here in Central Park.

Why Andover?

Wichita and Andover were chosen this year by the NFA due to our centralized geographic location. The fireworks demonstrations need to be done in an area with less population density than a metro area. Andover’s Central Park was a natural choice.

It is our hope that by hosting this portion of this international convention, it will bring additional tourism dollars into Andover.

What Safety Precautions are being taken?

The NFA Demonstration and Safety Committee (DSC) organizes the fireworks demonstrations. Only DSC members and the contracted licensed shooter(s) are allowed on the display site during the demonstrations. Our Andover Fire Marshal has been monitoring moisture levels and we have done additional mowing in the area to help prevent the chance of any accidental fires.

When will this take place?

The demonstrations for the NFA participants will take place each evening beginning Monday, Sept 10th - Thursday, September 13th. Each evening, the NFA convention attendees will come out beginning at 6pm and the shooting will begin at dusk and go until 10:30pm. This is the time when vendors get to show off their new products and wholesalers/distributors can decide if they want to add them to their purchase orders. The products being demonstrated will range from the small fountains set on the ground, to the larger aerial fireworks.

On Friday, August 14th, they will be hosting a Grand Public Display that will be like a show you have never seen! The cost to put on a show as grand as this would be over $200,000! We’ll be kicking off the evening at 6pm with a concert featuring Tommy Castro and the Painkillers and there will be food and alcohol available for purchase.

With the exception of a limited number of free wristbands being given away at all area Capitol Federal® locations and the Collision Center of Andover, the rest of the general public is being asked to pay a $5 entry fee for each person over the age of 12. Wristbands can be purchased in advance at Andover City Hall

What do I do if my dog goes missing?

We know fireworks can make animals anxious. If by chance Fido runs away, send his picture to the Andover Police Department on Facebook and they will post it. They are very successful at reconnecting pets with their owners.
